Purpose of the job:
To provide technical leadership and consultancy across the systems and software development life cycle, applicable to high integrity developments in both Real Time and non Real Time domains. Provide technical oversight on such programmes of work undertaken by the company. Act as the company representative in audits conducted by certification authorities (FAA or EASA) or similar parties.
Provide engineering support to related business development activities. Work in collaboration with Key Account Manager to win business from key customer(s). This is a customer facing role. There may be between 50%-75% travel.
*Support Key Account Manager (KAM) to grow customer account by establishing strong business relationship within the customer's technical organisation
*Support KAM in meetings and presentations
*Understand customer's products and identify opportunities to add value through our global and local capabilities
*In collaboration with KAM, propose innovative and creative approaches and unsolicited proposals to customer
*Promote the idea of outsourcing (work packages) and its benefits within customer's organisation
*Support customer's engineering team on identifying and helping develop processes for work package outsource
*Ability to write Statement of Work on behalf of customer to help them offload work packages
High Integrity System Development
*Apply detailed knowledge of relevant technical standards to projects in the Aerospace/Defence (eg. DO-178, Def Stan, Mil Std) and/or Rail (EN 50128) market sector.
*Participate in full life cycle design, development and verification programmes for complex systems.
*Apply detailed understanding of systems engineering roles to large complex projects.
*Help provide related safety analysis and assurance activities.
*Estimate work for both discrete work packages and complete projects.
*Provide technical oversight to project(s) undertaken by the company.
*Support and lead systems/software certification activities.
*Act as Technical Authority in high integrity/mission critical systems/software engineering projects.
*Identify and mitigate technical risk.
*Assess system architectures.
*Motivate and mentor other technical employees.
*Support business development activities, including technical solutions in proposals.
Systems & Software Engineering
*Be an expert in systems and software development processes.
*Familiarity with Embedded and/or desktop systems.
*Interpret project technical reports and determine actions/direction required to bring success.
*Maintain a technical understanding of languages (C, Ada, C++, C#) and related tools.
*Keep abreast of industry best practice and market direction.
*Presentation, Communication, Negotiation, Facilitation, Leadership. Able to interface at all levels.
Mandatory skills: ( max 5 )
*Expert on DO-178 and/or CENELEC 50128 and/or ARP4754
*Knowledge of the full systems/software life cycle from requirements to acceptance.
*Knowledge of various software languages, including some or all of C, ADA, C++, C#, JAVA.
*Knowledge of systems and software architectures and design methodologies
*Knowledge of tools such as DOORS, PTC Modeler/Rhapsody/Enterprise Architect, SysML/UML, LDRA/RTRT/ADATest, Simulink/SCADE/LabView, etc
*Must have acted as Technical Authority for one or more similar projects, taking personal responsibility for successful delivery.
*Must be experienced in supporting and leading safety critical software and certification audits.
*Must have the ability to train and mentor engineering staff.
Desirable skills required for this position:
*Ability to apply technical knowledge to detailed and complex Systems (hardware and software) architectures.
*Knowledge of ARP 4761
*Knowledge of DO254
*Knowledge of Mechanical Design and Analysis (Catia, SolidEdge etc.)
*Knowledge of technical standards applicable to synergistic markets, including: Medical Devices, ATC, Space, Marine.
*Ability to apply knowledge from one industry sector into other synergistic industry sectors.
*Ability to apply knowledge to non-synergistic markets to help establish a presence in those markets.
