An organisation based in the North West of England is currently looking for a Director of Estates on a permanent basis.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking strategic Estates planning & management;
  • Leading the development and delivery of the Estates Strategy, taking into consideration various stakeholders expectations in supporting the Strategy Plan;
  • Contributing to strategic planning with particular lead responsibility for the physical environment and physical resources;
  • Providing effective leadership and project management for major, complex capital projects, both in the UK and overseas;
  • Chairing meetings of internal and external senior staff, including technical project staff and consultants;
  • Being directly responsible for providing informed, timely and accurate advice to the Senior Management Team on all major aspects of Estates and Facilities Management;
  • Preparing, balancing and managing the Estates budgets and properly administering the budgets allocated in accordance with the Financial Regulations;
  • Being responsible for strategic risk management of the property portfolio;
  • Developing, managing and maintaining the implementation of a five-year rolling planned maintenance programme;
  • Monitoring the progression of all maintenance and service contracts ensuring all specifications are met within agreed time, budget and quality requirements;
  • Travelling overseas to perform a range of activities associated with capital building projects and health and safety;
  • Delivering pragmatic solutions to mitigate risk and allowing the organisation to deliver its activities;
  • Ensuring health, safety & environmental legislative compliance across the organisation;
  • Building close working relationships with the Senior Management Team and nurture a strong sense of teamwork among managers and staff in Estates;
  • Undertaking regular review of the skills mix within Estates to ensure that the organisation is able to operate as an informed client in all aspects of its estate, health and safety, and facility management activities;
  • Effectively communicate with a wide range of external individuals and organisations including the Health and Safety Executive, technical contractors and architects.

A successful candidate will have/be:

  • Educated to degree level in relevant discipline or significant experience in a highly similar role;
  • Proven commitment to continuous professional development;
  • Member of relevant recognised professional body;
  • Professional Health & Safety qualification;
  • Significant knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and its practical application in an international corporate environment;
  • Thorough understanding of and experience of successfully applying strategic and project management techniques in an Estates setting in a large and complex organisation;
  • Strong experience of leading and developing an effective and well-motivated, multi-disciplinary and multi-task estates and facilities team;
  • Broad experience both in the preparation and control of development programmes, building and engineering projects and in managing facility operations and maintenance services;
  • Experience of successfully delivering capital projects overseas;
  • Experience of successfully managing a complex property estates and facilities portfolio, with associated staff and budgets.
