Job Description

Purpose

The Mechanical Design Manager shall lead and guide the Mechanical Design department and act as a link from Senior Management to the department. Mechanical Design includes the Public Health and Fire Suppression design elements. The Mechanical Design Manager must collaborate and cooperate with the other Engineering Managers, BIM Managers & 2D CAD Managers to allocate necessary resources for the engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

The role requires you to act as a Leader, planner and ensure the QA QC of the mechanical design works completed in the office. Project management skills are essential to fulfill the below listed key responsibilities.

Department Development

The Manager must ensure that the complete department has the necessary knowledge and equipment to fulfill their job descriptions. Ensure that new incoming team members have all necessary documents available to gain knowledge of One Zone’s standards and methodology.

Team Development

Continue to develop in the latest technologies for the mechanical services industry. Complete Performance annual Development Review (PDR) on each team member. Assist in the development of the individual engineers, by identifying their strength and weakness and provide project experience to enhance skills sets.

Project Delivery

The Manager will be required to estimate the required hours to complete works packages received from various clients in different geographical locations, from minor works to full design, ie Concept to Construction issue, with either 2D or 3D drafting. The Manager is expected to maintain a constant understanding of all projects within the department for progress and delivery, provide guidance and assistance to all team members and communication to the client.

Productivity

The Manager must collect all reports from the Team and analyse time usage. They must be able to see regular patterns of time losses and develop a strategy against it.

Quality

The Manager must review each project for correct application of regulations for the project geographic locations and industry standards. Full QA QC review of all works within the Mechanical Department is the responsibility of the Manager, this includes approval for issue post QAQC review.

Reporting to Director of Operations

The Manager reports to the Director of Operation about the status of the department and the following items:

 Weekly Resource planning

 Weekly Team utilization

 Project status / progress

Qualification Requirements

For this position following qualification is required:

 Minimum of 10 years’ experience in similar position

 Degree Qualified Mechanical Engineer

 Member of CIBSE

 CEng preferable but not required

 Project Management skills

 In depth knowledge of installation and coordination

 Adequate understanding of other Building Services

 Basic understanding of Architectural and Structural elements

 Basic Revit knowledge

 Basic ACAD knowledge

 Sufficient Microsoft Office applications knowledge

 Excellent English language knowledge written and spoken.

As a department Manager, a positive and friendly attitude is essential. The Manager should be approachable by each team member and be open to communicate with the entire team.
