Resident Engineer - Building Services
A well-established consultancy has an immediate requirement for a multi-disciplinary design engineer to work on-site in Central London providing site based support to their client's head of engineering and the engineering senior manager, working under their direction and with the corporate real estate team and other retained consultants dealing with all designated engineering services design, project management and site supervision matters. Works vary from small office space to workspace strategy implementation, energy saving measures and large scale capital projects.
Accountabilities will include the quality of project documentation and its timely delivery, preparation of a monthly works report adding time to web time sheet entry on a weekly basis, and producing expenses on a monthly basis.
Specific activities will include assisting the client with review and feasability advice for energy savingand capital projects, taking the project brief from the client and determining if the works can be dealt with on site or require office/team support, preparation of fee submissions when requested, preparation of scope documents for onward transmission to cost consultant for budgeting purposes, liaising with the principal designer for the works, preparation of scope documents for issue to contractors.
You will also be involved in:
Liasion with the office design team and contribution to the preparation of detail design specifications and tender drawings.
Carrying out tender reviews in conjunction with cost consultant and client.
Attending design team, pre-construction and site project meetings.
Responding to RFI's, technical submissions and prepare draft instructions for processing by the contract administrator.
Monitoring the site works against programme and for quality, witnessing site testing and reviewing draft O&M documentation
Monitoring the sub tenant's contractor's installation works, and process applications for permits to work.
You should be a Chartered engineer and degree qualified (in an M&E related subject), have a good understanding of the design process, have asbestos awareness and a good understanding of health & safety.
A good understanding of MEP Construction Industry protocols and expectations, familiarity with CDM, and an understanding of the latest building services legislation is required..
You should have a good M&E knowledge and understanding of the following: HV & LV electrical power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, fire suppression systems, uniterruptable power supplies, standby generation, lightning protection, CCTV/security/intruder detection, sprinklers, mechanical ventilation, heating and cooling services, hot and cold water services, drainage, building management systems, CDM (2015), site health and safety, statutory documentation and standards and designing for future maintenance requirements.
You should have good communication skills both written and verbal, be methodical and thorough, have a commitment to maintaining high standards with an eye to detail, be approachable and personable, have team working and management skills, have a flexible attutude to work be a creative thinker have good time keeping and be of smart appearance.
Your should be fully computer literate with experience/knowledge of AutoCAD, Amtech, Hevacomp, Dialux and IES.
