This is a challenging and rewarding senior design role where you will lead on the design, project management and client liaison for your own engineering projects or be part of a multidisciplinary team, to deliver innovative low energy mechanical design solutions for a variety of buildings.
The Design and Construction Service is currently managing an annual budget in excess of £50 Million. You will require a customer focused approach and excellent communications skills to deliver mechanical services for part of this funding.
A significant proportion of projects include boiler and heating replacements for schools, but other premises including offices, sports facilities, care homes, commercial premises, libraries and museums may demand specialist mechanical installations, requiring some personal research and development.
You will be familiar with computer aided design packages including Autocad and Hevacomp, and have a thorough knowledge of current Mechanical Engineering Design and Health and Safety Legislation and Standards. You will also have the responsibility to mentor and provide technical support for assistant Mechanical Engineers.
We welcome candidates qualified as, or willing to train as, a Low Carbon Consultant producing thermal models and EPCs. Training needs maybe considered for thermal modelling and BIM and would be assessed as part of regular personal development reviews.
The team's work includes advising client representatives, design colleagues and premise managers, undertaking surveys, feasibilities, CDM risk assessment, design, calculations, costing, design coordination and contract administration, using established QA procedures and project management software.
You will take full ownership and responsibility of schemes, from initial brief for the full production of design and tender documents and all associated project management and contract administration to deliver the complete scheme on time and budget to client satisfaction.
