One of my top clients, an international multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with exciting projects all around the world are looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to deliver projects within the Data Centres sector. Specific sector experience is not required.
Renowned across the world with good reason, the firm’s reputation is built on their engineers’ pride in their job and insistence on going the extra mile to not just fulfil the brief but excel it, and to produce designs for some of the most famous buildings in the world. Unusually among engineering companies of this high standing, however, the atmosphere for employees is not a high pressure one – their philosophy is the best professionals are self-motivated and respond best to a supportive approach.
The role is Design Manager as part of a 20-strong team specialising in Data Centres, within a 700-strong consultancy. Projects are subject to non-disclosure agreements for data security reasons, however past projects include a number of bluechip internet companies. Although candidates must demonstrate a strong technical background in Mechanical Design, previous experience in Data Centres is not necessary.
The Design Manager will take the lead on managing all aspects of design within multi-disciplinary teams (not just Building Services) including both internal and external teams - always as the lead consultant. In addition to being responsible for overall liaison between the design discipline teams and the client, the Design Manager takes the lead in design meetings and wider design team cooperation to pro-actively ensure project delivery strategy is efficiently planned and followed by all.
The successful candidate must be of the highest calibre able to simultaneously:
· manage, resource and oversee multiple projects;
· manage a multi-disciplinary design team;
· liaise between engineers and technicians in different disciplines to deliver projects;
· represent the firm in front of clients and other professionals;
· bring in to the team repeat and new business.
