This is an exciting time to be part of Bridgend County Borough Council's transformation agenda, introducing a new Corporate Landlord model (the first of it's kind in Wales) to effectively and efficiently deliver all of the council's property needs under one roof, including Total Facilities Management and Major Projects teams. The property portfolio comprises of 950 assets, with a value of circa £400 million and a budget of £15.7 million pa. £43 million having recently been allocated towards the 21st Century Schools Programme.
Your new role
As the senior mechanical design engineer, you will be responsible for managing the council's Mechanical Design function which will include the design, maintenance, procurement & project management processes.
You will be expected to take the lead on projects from concept through to completion. This will include feasibility studies, cost estimates, site surveys, detailed design, tender management, project management, commissioning and handover.
You will be expected to provide professional, specialist building services advice to both internal & external clients.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need to hold a relevant degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering. You will ideally hold IEng status and/or be a member of a recognised engineering institute.
You will have previous experience in working for a multi-disciplinary engineering team. You will need to have experience of supervising / managing staff & project management experience.
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing is essential. Computer skills and experience of using a range of IT and mechanical design packages such as Hevacomp & CAD are equally as important.
What you'll get in return
Salary banding Grade 13 £38,052 - £39,961 per year. All employees are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. The leave entitlement for a full year will be 32 days (inclusive of bank holidays).
