In 2012 the University of Manchester embarked on £1 billion 10-year plan to create a world-class campus for our students and staff.

In order to realize this ambitious goal, the Directorate of Estates and Facilities, Design Services Unit is seeking to appoint a Project Building Services Engineer (Electrical) within the Minor Works Team to provide an electrical engineering design and project management function in relation to construction projects, including planned maintenance, alteration and refurbishment works across campus ranging in value from £10k to £500k.

You will act as Principal Designer on some projects and be responsible for obtaining comprehensive client briefs and developing cost effective electrical engineering design solutions that reflect modern electrical services engineering methods. On other projects you will be part of the design team being led by a Project Building Surveyor or Architectural Technician. You will be responsible for producing tender packages including contract and project documentation, reviewing tender returns and advising the clients accordingly. You will be responsible for the contract administration on projects where you are acting as Principal Designer.

The successful candidate will produce and submit Planning Applications, Building Regulation Applications and Listed Building Consent Applications as necessary, including liaison with Local Authority Planning Department and Conservation Officers.   You will manage the approved budgets for projects in a manner that is compliant with the University’s financial regulations together with managing the resources allocated to project work.

The successful candidate will possess a professional qualification CIBSE or equivalent and have relevant experience in developing electrical design solutions and project management, from project inception to completion.   They will also possess experience of managing and directing design teams with a mix of internal and external resources.
