The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) is the leading network of independent girls’ schools in the UK who educate approximately 19,000 pupils across 23 GDST schools and 2 academies throughout England and Wales. The GDST employs 3,500 staff with an annual turnover in excess of £200m across the schools and at the Trust Office based in Victoria.

The Estates Department acts on behalf of the Trust to manage all property related matters to ensure the Trust’s interests and its Estate are developed and maintained to agreed standards.

Reporting to the Director of Estates, the postholder will act as the Infrastructure and Sustainability expert responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of holistic sustainability across the Trust. This will include setting environmental strategy and sustainability policy, plus the Mechanical and Electrical technical inputs to inform capital projects and maintenance works across the Estate.

This is a senior management post that will lead and manage the energy, engineering and environmental sustainability strategy plus its implementation across the Trust’s multi-site, diverse portfolio, requiring substantial expertise gained in a comparable context. This is also a hands-on, yet autonomous role that will enable the postholder to deliver significant change and make a real impact across the Trust’s portfolio. A demonstrable background in delivering change and transformation in this context is essential. You will be qualified in a relevant engineering/sustainability/energy discipline with membership of a professional body such as CIBSE, IET or the Energy Institute.

The role calls for an individual with a proactive and highly motivated disposition and who will embrace the challenge of embedding ‘Triple-Bottom-Line’ sustainability whilst still addressing technical issues, across a diverse organisation. You will be a collaborative team player and passionate about embedding all aspects of sustainability across all of the Trust’s stakeholders.

The GDST offers a range of excellent benefits including generous pension and annual leave entitlements, significant fee remission, a range of health, wellbeing, professional development and financial benefits together with a flexible, progressive and inspiring working environment.
