Principal Mechanical Engineer

£42,036 to £48,677 plus substantial benefits package

We are a great, modern university, in a great global city, here to make an impact on Manchester, our nation and beyond, with a driving ambition to discover and disseminate knowledge, and make higher education accessible and beneficial to all those with the passion and ability to succeed. We work closely with our city, with business, the community and our academic peers - locally, nationally and internationally - to be inventive and creative, generate great opportunities, and enable our students, colleagues and everyone whose lives we touch, to make an impact.

Reporting to the Head of Estates Infrastructure, the post will be responsible for setting, developing and monitoring all mechanical engineering design and maintenance standards. You will take full accountability for the strategic leadership and smooth running of planned & cyclical mechanical maintenance works and overseeing reactive works to ensure full statutory compliance. This covers the full remit of mechanical services including all HVAC, pressure systems and gas plant.

The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in Mechanical Engineering Management across a similar diverse multi-site estate portfolio.  Experience in overseeing the design/specification, selection and application of the full range of mechanical systems is essential. The role would suit an individual with strong people management skills who is adept in motivating and empowering engineering professionals. Strong interpersonal skills are required as you’ll need to establish effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and be able to foster a culture of project delivery excellence across a large complex organisation.

The University is committed to delivering excellence through its buildings and you will have the chance to consider the use of innovation and new technologies to create cutting edge, inspiring and sustainable facilities.
