Sustainability Consultant - Building Physics

Our clients work makes buildings better: they are passionate about design that leads to happier humans and low or no environmental impact. Climate change is an urgent challenge, and people deserve brilliant buildings, so join their team to help them deliver excellence on every project.

They are looking for ambitious sustainability engineers / building physicists to join their talented team in their Oxfordshire office and continue building their reputation for creating innovative solutions for mechanical, electrical and sustainable building design. This is an amazing opportunity to work within a dynamic team, taking projects from concept to completion, and develop your skills to Chartered Engineer level and beyond.

If you think you have what it takes to join a rapidly growing company and work on a diverse range of clients and interesting projects we’d love to hear from you.

Your New Role

You will be part of a team that shape building design for the better, reducing environmental impact and improving occupant comfort and satisfaction. Your key responsibilities will include investigations, feasibility studies, preparation of associated reports, and calculations relating to low energy and sustainable building design. This will include designing and assessing whole buildings for Part L compliance using IES VE software – with a focus on minimising CO2 emissions and mitigating summer overheating. You will also be learning passive design principles, including the Passivhaus Standard as part of the QODA approach to sustainable buildings. This is a technical role, requiring a high degree of numeracy and an ability to unravel complex technical puzzles to guide our clients and design partners in key project decisions. They get involved in everything from solar modelling of site masterplans to detailed finite element modelling of individual building fabric components. It all counts, as they deliver highly sustainable buildings.

Familiarity with a 3D building energy modelling package is essential, and experience of IES-VE in particular is preferred. Likewise, any training in, or familiarity with the Passivhaus Standard would be an advantage, alongside related building physics disciplines such as natural daylight design. There will be opportunities for training through their Academy programme to help achieve Chartered Engineer status.

You should offer

Qualified to degree level in engineering / physics

Good communication skills both written and verbal

2+ years of experience in building thermal modelling

(exceptional graduate candidates also considered)

What you’ll get in return
