Oxford University Estates Services is responsible for the learning and research buildings of the world's leading university. The estate comprises over 350 buildings, ranging from historic Grade 1 listed libraries to world-leading modern science facilities and buildings from every era in between.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer (SME) role reports to one of the Principal Mechanical Engineers. They will be an experienced professional mechanical engineer with Chartered Status or working towards this.
The SME will work closely with all members of the Building Services team. They will support the work to deliver the strategy for the University’s mechanical infrastructure and systems which in turn supports the activities of the wider University. They will provides expert advice to Sustainability, Controls and Capital Projects teams and across the institution e.g. Administrators and building managers.
The SME is responsible for the specific aspects of the operation, testing, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the mechanical services ensuring statutory compliance and the delivery of resilient, efficient, effective and value for money systems. The post holder will be responsible for the management of large maintenance contracts and/or direct line management of staff within the Building Services team.
This post requires a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with considerable mechanical experience and a firm commitment to maintaining high standards for safe and efficient mechanical systems throughout the University’s estate. They will also support the Capital Projects team in delivering the next generation of buildings, and the Sustainability team in their challenge of halving the University’s carbon footprint.
