Lead by the Head of Estates and Facilities, the Estates and Facilities department consists of two internal divisions, Estates who are responsible for the delivery of Capital projects and property matters and Facilities who are responsible for the day to day service delivery and compliance of the estate.

Based at WGC HQ the Estates and Facilities team are responsible for ensuring the Constabulary’s buildings are compliant and fit for purpose and services provided provide value for money in addition to providing professional advice and support to the police and crime commissioner on estates matters.

The Constabulary’s estate consists of 30 sites in total, 16 of which are owned, 14 are leased (excluding Police houses) with a gross total floor area of approx. 60,000m2.

The role of Building Services apprentice is a recently created position within the Facilities department created to provide additional support and succession planning within the hard services element of the facilities division reporting in to the Technical FM and working alongside the facilities assistants and senior engineer.

This role entails working with both internal colleagues and external service suppliers to ensure the constabulary’s building systems such has heating, cooling and electrical supplies are maintained in an optimal condition and compliant with statutory legislation at all times.

Key Responsibilities;

  • To manage allocated Capital and Revenue Mechanical & Electrical projects and or provide
  • Mechanical & Electrical Requirements as part of larger project to ensure operational effectiveness within approved budget.
  • To assist in ensure that the legislative (including Health and Safety) and business requirements and associated plant are met in the most cost-effective way.
  • Assess and prioritise operational requirements with regard to Electrical and Mechanical services to ensure operational requirements are met in the most effective way.
  • To assist in ensuring that the requirements of contracts relating to Mechanical and Electrical installations are met.
  • Provide engineering advice on property management and energy management issues to support the most effective use of property and plant throughout the Constabulary.
  • Provide general office support to meet the needs of operational management both in terms of cost and quality.
