Health & safety Compliance officer - School Based

A busy Secondary School in Northamptonshire have an immediate need for a Health & Safety Officer to lead on their Technical Compliance


Main Duties:


* Maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and best practice. Provide regular updates on all new or amended Health and Safety legislation in the following and other areas of health and safety practice:
 L8 - the control of Legionella
 Electrical safety, including PAT testing
 Fire risk assessments and fire safety
 Asbestos and asbestos management
 Scaffolding, LOLER, PUWER
* Monitor the School's compliance with the Health and Safety Policy and procedures and formally advise on areas of non-compliance
* Ensure School meets it statutory and ISI responsibilities in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting (e.g.RIDDOR)
* Ensure that safety inspections are carried, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities
* Manage and devise the agenda for, formulate and distribute minutes for the Health and Safety Committee meetings. Ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines
* Oversee the establishment and review of risk assessments, monitoring records of actions taken and implementing overarching arrangements
* Oversee the school's Asbestos Management Plan and advise on procedures required to ensure the school operates within the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations
* Establish, develop and maintain records of site induction of contractors, consultants etc.
* Establish procedures associated with health and safety training needs and maintain records of training undertaken
* Ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported and investigated
* Formulate and maintain the school's health and safety policies, arrangements and procedures
* Identify opportunities for continuous safety improvement and assist in their implementation
* Liaise with external bodies such as local authorities and specialist groups on health and safety issues
* Responsible for the programme of internal monitoring and audit of all Health, Safety and Compliance requirements and provide regular updates to SLT and Trustees

* To work within the requirements of the School's Health and Safety policy, performance standards, safe systems of work and procedures and undertake training where needed

* To comply with the School's Child Protection and Health and Safety policies and undertake risk assessments as appropriate



What you'll need to succeed

At least 3 years recent and relevant experience in a similar role
Relevant qualifications in health and safety, environmental management, construction or management
Ideally Nebosh Diploma in Health and Safety
Excellent knowledge of all legal and practical
Professional approach, coupled with strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to get the job done
Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
strong IT skills

Ability to work on own initiative

Ability to work co-operatively with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements

Gathering, analysing and reporting on key Health and Safety data/statistics




What you'll get in return
This based in the school in a covid secure environment. The contract is to start straight away and is subject to an enhanced DBS check. The contract is anticipated to last until August 2021. This is inside IR35 so is PAYE or Umbrella.
