Based in our Wood Street office you will actively champion the importance of Building Services and lead on the maintenance and management of Mechanical and Electrical systems across English Heritage's London Portfolio. As a key member of English Heritage's wider multi-disciplinary Estate Management Team your expertise and experience will be central to keeping our sites safe, accessible and operational for our visitors.

The role also presents a unique opportunity to contribute to realising Sustainable Conservation agendas and contributing to energy reduction advocacy. Embodying a collaborative approach to working alongside colleagues in the Heritage Science and Collections teams to optimise environmental management conditions for our world renowned collections.

In line with government advice on preventing the spread of Covid 19, members of the Estates Management Team, and other office-based staff across English Heritage, are currently working remotely at home. However, access to offices is available to staff who prefer to work from an office location. Procedures for working in all locations have been risk- assessed to ensure staff, visitors and contractors can work safely.

Are you passionate about caring for some of London's most important historical buildings and landmarks? If so, this is a great opportunity to join English Heritage Trust's London based Estates Management team. The Building Services Manager's primary purpose is to provide high quality conservation maintenance and associated facilities services for the National Collection of Historic Properties and Estates. It is a busy and varied role which makes every day interesting and no two days the same. Marrying the objectives of conserving the significance of sites with an M&E specialism has great potential for an innovative thinker with a passion for promoting best practice.

The sites within the portfolio vary considerably in complexity and scale. Ranging from large visitor attractions like Kenwood House, Apsley House and Tilbury Fort to smaller vernacular buildings like Harmondsworth Barn. All of which English Heritage teams proudly care of on behalf of the nation and for future generations.

You will have a passion for working with others and enjoy being a part of a busy, supportive team that dynamically responds to changing priorities. As a confident communicator, you will be comfortable building rapport with Senior Managers, Team Managers and all Estates and site staff teams.

You will have experience of working with internal stakeholders and contractors in procuring and administering M&E measured term contracts as well as preparing works instructions and managing and auditing work on site.

As a natural problem solver you will seek to use your initiative to overcome practical issues that come up as part of working in a busy team. With the ability to follow processes and procedures you will be able to also manage the unexpected when it arises.

You will hold a minimum HNC/HND level qualification in mechanical and /or electrical engineering and or minimum HND or NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a building/construction related discipline and/or equivalent experience.

We strive to be an inclusive employer and are always looking for people who reflect the diversity of the country today, to help us make it more relevant to the diversity of the people, communities and places we serve. We continually look for new ways to promote the past in a way that is inclusive to all and that celebrates the cultural diversity of England's heritage.

From remote sites to inner city monuments, from regional teams to our Head Office, the diversity of our teams is critical to making sure our shared heritage is inclusive, exciting and accessible.

You'll find it's a workplace like no other - taking you behind the scenes of these extraordinary sites and supporting you to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference.

By joining us, you'll enjoy the rewards of a great team environment in inspiring locations, helping to make our site a wonderful place to visit. You'll also be joining our charity, which through our 400+ historic monuments, buildings and sites, brings the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year. We offer a competitive benefits package including a generous pension, 25 days leave a year and free entry to all English Heritage properties for you, another adult and up to 6 children (under the age of 19).

Interviews will be held on the 9th June via Zoom.
