To support and maintain our mid-term estate strategy commitments and development of our environmental sustainability objectives whilst ensuring statutory compliance is met. This will be achieved by delivering Long Term Maintenance and Asset Management expertise to ensure effective, and balanced systems are in place to safeguard UKRI owned assets of which NERC is accountable for. To project manage and advise on major and minor capital projects as applicable to your area of expertise.

You will be:

  • In collaboration with the Senior Estates Officer, provide advice and mentorship to ensure sites integrate and operate an Asset Management Plan derived from condition survey reports prepared by others, including legislative non-compliance and backlog maintenance.
  • Verify the appropriateness and adequacy of annual Long-Term Maintenance plans, assess priorities, and support the agreement of funding levels. Conduct regular review of the progress of implementation; supervising expenditure levels and to provide verification of site reports. Produce monthly progress and year end reports on status of the services maintenance programme and the current estate condition.
  • From regular visits and contracts with sites, provide professional advice and guidance as is required on specific construction, maintenance, physical security, and environmental related matters, such as building regulations, SFG20; CDM2015; procurement; BREEAM and contract management.
  • Act as client-side Project Advisor on capital projects as required up c. £5m value.

There is the opportunity to work flexibly (hybrid working), however you will be required to travel UKRI HQ in Swindon for a minimum of two days per month and in addition undertake regular visits to geographically spread sites across the UK from Edinburgh to Southampton, Aberystwyth to Cambridge.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum level of formal qualification for this role - HNC or degree in Building Engineering or Construction related discipline.

Minimum level of professional membership i.e.:

  • Member of Association of Project Management
  • Member of the Institute of Workplace Management
  • Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers
  • or equivalent body

You will need:

  • Strong communication, negotiation and time management skills and the ability to prioritise and deal with difficult situations, responding flexibly, whilst also dealing with ambiguity to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues and stakeholders as a team member to build positive relationships and support for initiatives, aligning activity and resources to deliver strategic objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in representing NERC when communicating and dealing with both internal and external stakeholders in providing technical advice and assurance and dedication to the professional ethos.
  • Be able to deal with concurrent tasks and be responsible for planning and prioritising own work area. Ability to work to demanding deadlines.
