Graduate level role with a large public sector organisation, Belfast, 6-9 month contract, £20-£24k pro rata

Your new company
Hays are working with a large public sector organisation based in Belfast with a presence across Northern Ireland whose estate ranges in age and type, mostly commercial or industrial. This role is to support the estates department with the planning, organisation and delivery of Energy Management services and projects.

Your new role
This is a temporary job working directly for a public sector estates team within their property department. This is a newly created role to support the current team in their delivery of this organisation energy strategy.
You will report to the Energy Manager and provide assistance on the following points:

  • Assist with the development and delivery of the organisations Carbon Reduction Strategy
  • Effectively manage day-to-day activities in Energy management ensuring that key activities are planned and support the achievement of Divisional objectives
  • Provide an energy management service with expert advice and guidance to staff and senior management
  • Manage Energy and utilities contracts
  • Identify, appraise and progress energy/money saving projects and M&E improvement projects
  • Prepare accurate and timely periodical energy reports for electricity, gas, heating oil and water across the business
  • Lead and develop energy awareness campaigns directed at all staff to promote energy efficiency
  • Develop and deliver regular training presentations to staff at all levels on energy awareness in general
  • Manage, plan and implement an on-going programme of energy surveys and audits across the property portfolio. These audits are specifically aimed at measuring the efficiency of sites and identifying energy saving opportunities as well as sharing lessons learned with other managers
  • Represent Property Department at meetings with internal and external bodies in relation to your areas of responsibility and to ensure that corporate policy is followed in the decision/action taken regarding the outcome of such interaction
  • Provide advice to new building and refurbishment projects as well as identify and develop opportunities for energy efficiency and implementation of renewable energy technology
  • Prepare risk assessments, method statements, schedules and tender documentation


What you'll need to succeed
To be eligible for this position you will have a minimum of 1 years' experience in the Energy or Mechanical & Electrical Building Service industry such as Design, Consultancy or Management or within a similar public sector estates team.
Minimum of a Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical subject.

Knowledge of legislation and regulations associated with Energy & Emissions e.g. SECR, ESOS, DEC's.

It would be beneficial but not essential to have the following: Experience of NEC contracts, Experience of BIM, Experience of BREEAM/CEEQUAL or Low Carbon Consultant / Low Carbon Energy Assessor.

You will receive a highly competitive rate of pay plus 34 days annual leave including stat day. Working hours are Monday to Friday 37.5 per week with a lunch time finish every Friday.
