Lead the strategic direction of engineering services, creating a culture of exceptional service delivery focused on enhancing the student and staff experience.

King's College London is one of the top 10 UK universities in the world (2020 QS World University Rankings) and among the oldest in England.  Since its foundation in 1829 King’s has defined itself in terms of its service to society, and it now has some 30,000 students and more than 8,000 staff members. King’s Strategic Vision 2029, a strategy which will take the university to its 200th birthday, has pledged that its staff and students will continue to help make the world a better place.

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Head of Engineering is responsible for leading the strategy development and integrated operational delivery of all infrastructure, engineering, fabric and maintenance services.  You will take full ownership to ensure the estate and infrastructure is fit for purpose, legally compliant alongside providing high levels of customer service and meeting other institutional priorities and initiatives.  The role will also be crucial to the development and delivery of energy management, and energy asset efficiency programmes to reduce the University’s impact on the environment.

The Head of Engineering provides line and pastoral management of all staff within the Asset Management team to ensure that the team successfully interfaces with the Estates Development; Campus and Accommodation Services; Safety, Sustainability & Communications Teams resulting in an intelligent and integrated approach to both estates and asset management.

The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer and possess a proven track record in delivering high standards of hard services delivery across a similarly diverse and complex estate. You will be an adept leader, with strong people management skills who can develop effective internal and external relationships. This is a role that will suit ‘can do’ individuals with a high level of personal drive and energy.

The competitive benefits package includes 27 days annual leave + 4 closure days (over Easter and Christmas) + bank holidays. The USS pension scheme has generous employer contributions. Details of the benefits of working at KCL can be found at http://www.kcl.ac.uk/hr/staffbenefits/index.aspx
