MEP Resident Engineer


Up to £60,000

We are currently working with a medium-sized multi-disciplinary consultancy to find them a full-time resident engineer to join their site located in West Ham. The role will be 4 days site-based and one-day office/home for a minimum of 2 years.

  • Under the appointment as MEP Resident Engineer, you need to provide a resident engineer/site engineer role for the project, or as agreed for key stages, during the building services works, including but not limited to:
  • Maintain an overview of the contractor to ensure the building services contractors coordinate works between various sub-contractors.
  • Ensure that the building services contractors provide all necessary instructions to subcontractors and obtains all necessary authorisations at the appropriate / required times;
  • Ensure the requirements of the specification(s) are complied with.
  • To inspect and review workmanship and materials incorporated in the works, and issue instructions to remedy any faults / issues.
  • Inspect and check the layout of the works for conformity with the requirements of the design and contract.
  • Respond to all technical queries raised by the building services contractors or subcontractors, in compliance with the EDMS protocol.
  • Issue instructions through the client / project manager.
  • Issue clarifications of details and other elements of the design as necessary.
  • Maintain records of all measurements and tests, and update the design to conform with the work executed.
  • Report regularly to the client / project manager / Commissioning manager.
  • If a building services contractors solution is adopted which has a large quantum of off-site manufacture, the resident / site engineer should allow to inspect and monitor the works during production.
  • Contribute and coordinate the commissioning and handover strategies and attend / witness test crucial building services test during the commissioning phases, especially at partial handover stages;
  • Familiarisation with the contract, contract drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, etc.
  • In conjunction with the design team examine installation drawings, shop drawings and builders work details submitted by Contractors and/or Sub-Contractors for the Works or parts thereof, in respect of the design intent and compliance with performance criteria.
  • All amendments to be agreed and approved prior to installation, with all changes being fully documented.
  • Monitor quality of workmanship and materials to demonstrate that the equipment supplied and proposed by Contractors and/or Sub-Contractors for the Works complies with the contract documents or agreed subsequent.
  • Monitor the Works to demonstrate compliance with the contract requirements and best practice.
  • Review detailed programmes of work; Provide regular reports on contractors claimed progress against programme. Identify and report any problems, delays or shortcomings and contractors claimed proposed corrective action/s.
