The Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC) https://www.har.mrc.ac.uk/  is located in an expanding science innovation park in Oxfordshire and is an internationally renowned centre at the forefront of genetics research.  As the hub of the new National Mouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilities of the MLC support a package of distinctive research clusters spread across the UK to accelerate our understanding of human disease.

At the MRC, we require staff to observe, at all times, the Health and Safety at Work Regulations in order to maintain a safe working environment.

The roles we have available are:

Building Services Assistant – This role involves assisting in the carrying out of general repairs, maintenance and installation work in accordance with the relevant regulations and the MRC’s specifications and Codes of Practice.

You will carry out emergency repair works and ongoing general maintenance to all buildings (including minor decorating and carpentry work). You will also assist engineers in carrying out day-to-day maintenance work.

If you have a City & Guilds level 2 & 3 (or an NVQ accredited equivalent) and good knowledge of varied maintenance, as well as a passion for fixing things and problem solving, this is the perfect role for you.

Electrical Technician – This is a crucial position assisting with carrying out of electrical repairs and installation work in accordance with the IEE Regulations and the Medical Research Council's specifications and Codes of Practice.

You will work to undertake installation, operation, fault finding and maintenance of the MRC Estate’s wide range of electrical building services, including lighting and emergency lighting/general power 230–415V, fire alarms, door access, IT and communication systems.

You will also have an active role in site services condition surveys and where required, formal inspection testing and verification of electrical systems.

This role will suit anyone with a recognised electrical qualification (BS7671 Wiring Regulations or similar) or in the final year of a recognised apprenticeship scheme with  proven experience in a relevant engineering field.

Senior Mechanical Technician The role is responsible for leading on the day-to-day management and execution of maintenance on mechanical site services (heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), domestic water systems (DWS), piped water distribution, hot and cold water systems, chilled water, steam, compressed air). Overseeing internal and external works, the Senior Mechanical Technician will be responsible for ensuring the mechanical plant is performing effectively and is managed and retained in a serviceable condition, undertaking routine maintenance, and scheduling works to adhere to industry and safety standards.

To succeed in this role you will be educated to City & Guilds level 3 (or an NVQ accredited equivalent) in a mechanical engineering discipline (HVAC/pipefitting/plumbing etc.). You will have proven experience in the building services industry and a working knowledge of mechanical piped systems and design.
