Sustainability and Building Physics Consultant

Location : Bristol or London (hybrid or home-working considered)

Salary: £35-45k

An opportunity for a sustainability consultant to push forward their career with a driven and friendly team in Bristol and London.

ABOUT MACH

MACH is a well established and growing holistic consultancy. We are different to other consultants as historically we come from an acoustics background but have expanded into providing sustainability design advice, leaning very much to towards reducing the carbon impact of buildings.

Our skills in integrated ventilation and acoustic design is unrivalled, and due to the increasing complexity of façade requirements, this had lead to high levels of growth in the company. Our brand/philosophy provides highly analytical, graphical and accessible consultancy, and we take pride in producing outstanding work and building relationships with our clients, leading us to work on large and significant projects throughout the UK.

We focus on creating opportunities for low carbon building design, which we do through intelligently blending acoustics, daylighting, ventilation and sustainability consultancy into one package. This is what really drives us as a team, and it is challenging but rewarding work. Furthermore we invest in R&D and have close links, including teaching, at numerous universities (Universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and UWE) and so our designs continue to incorporate new and exciting research. The work we do is different.

From this, MACH provides an opportunity for career growth as well as to work creatively on technically challenging projects, in an engaging and open working environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for someone to be a senior member of the sustainability team, who will work closely with the rest of the team in producing creative and high value work. MACH is definitely not a ‘corporate’ company, and you will quickly get to know everyone soon after joining. You will be a key member of the team, working closely with everyone from graduates to directors, so your impact will be felt by the whole company and our clients.

Responsibilities for the senior sustainability consultant role will include managing projects, attending design team meetings, thermal modelling (daylight, ventilation/overheating, energy), writing reports & fee proposals and integrating with the acoustics team. You will also be asked to carry out marketing with CPDs and workshops with architects and contractors.

The role will require someone with a lot of self-drive to win new work and help continue to grow the team. MACH’s growth is due to the reputation it earns with its clients, and we are looking for someone to help in both nurturing existing and creating new relationships with architects and contractors.

The position is based in either Bristol or London, but we are also open to hybrid or home-working if desired.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who is driven and passionate about sustainable buildings. A key requirement is that you are keen to learn about and use innovate design practices on projects by communicating with colleagues in different specialisms. MACH would also look for the following;

  • Relevant qualifications in Environmental Design or similar.
  • Experience of carrying out and managing daylight and ventilation analysis using IES/TAS, with reference to TM52, TM59, BB101 etc;
  • Experience of managing the delivery of sustainability services on projects;
  • Knowledge of planning strategies, as well as energy and sustainability statements;
  • Good report writing ability and communication skills;
  • Driving license;
  • Knowledge of Part L criteria and assessment methodology, particularly in the non-residential sector.
