Control and Systems Engineer required in Grangemouth


My client, an oil refinery business is looking for the services of a Control/Systems Engineer based in their Grangemouth operation and offer agile/hybrid working conditions. You will come from an engineering or IT background and manage the smooth operational integration and management of their controls and monitoring systems on site, through maintenance, modification and troubleshooting.

Job Purpose

* Maintain and control the System Hardware and Software changes as generated by the Assets and Automation Team and act as System Manager for Primary hardware asset to meet business unit Safety, health and Environmental (SHE), reliability and commercial targets.
* Scope and design DCS systems for new Automation Projects to match targets for SHE, reliability, flexibility, and manufacturing performance improvement

Principle Accountabilities

* Develop and deliver a total asset care service including design, maintenance, modifications and upgrades, ensuring they are maintained on a day-to-day basis to meet business HSE/reliability targets and comply with company standards.
* Advise appropriate teams carrying out plant improvements (Projects, TAR, study/development) on scope, definition, and specification of automation hardware, allowing the businesses to meet their manufacturing targets for SHE, reliability, capability, flexibility, cost and time
* Develop and supervise the implementation of engineering solutions and improvements to the asset DCS equipment enabling the plant to meet its performance targets
* Maintain and ensure security of local systems domain to prevent Cyber-attacks to meet business availability and SHE targets.
* Assess manufacturers' notifications of known insecurities on systems and advise asset on vulnerabilities and develop remediation plan to resolve these.
* Execute and complete the recovery plan for programmable systems during major incidents/emergencies to maximize plant availability.
* Coach and develop other team members, increasing their technical knowledge of the systems.
* Monitor and improve equipment performance to maximize DCS availability.
* Develop and deliver systems diagnostics training to all relevant users outside team, across several of the major assets, to meet users' competency requirements.

Special Features

* FSENG TUV certified. Thorough understanding of IEC61508, IEC61511.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

* Degree qualified in measurement and control or equivalent, with at least 5 years industrial experience.
* Working experience of the Honeywell based DCS systems employed at Grangemouth.
* Proven IT skills with Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 & Win7/Win10 knowledge including a thorough understanding of computer systems, networking, software administration and OT functionality.
* In depth DCS systems design capability
* Strong analytical ability to support effective troubleshooting and determine solutions to complex technical problems which the jobholder may have not seen before.
* Skilled in coaching and mentoring others.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
* Proficient level of technical competencies in Control Systems/PLCs/SISs
- Honeywell TPN/TPS/PKS
- FSC/Safety Manager
- PHD
- Oracle
- PES
- Solid State ESD systems (ICS)
* Machinery Protection systems (CCC, Bently Nevada)
* Ability to understand advanced technical instructional material and data and implement technological advances to existing systems.
* Ability to act as lead DCS engineer on medium projects (>100K) and develop project estimates based on design and engineering standards.
* Thorough understanding of the control systems interaction with process plant operation and availability.
* Thorough understanding of instrumentation system interactions with the associated control system and the ability to mentor and lead other disciplines in these areas.
* Ability to analyse and understand cross-discipline (Process, I/E) problems/requests.
* Recognised by third party vendors as the asset DCS technical expert.
