About the role:

This is an exciting time to be joining the British Museum in the role of Technical Services Manager within the Property and Facility Management Department. You will be providing your technical expertise to manage the British Museum estate, comprising of five sites in London, Reading and Wiltshire. The Hard FM services comprise of the maintenance of all Museum buildings and assets and you will support the management of the FM Contractor, and advise the Museum on technical services for MEP assets and systems.

This role also includes creating and developing systems to better monitor energy use, leading and working with the FM contractor on energy reduction initiatives.   • Offer technical advice in relation to maintain the British Museum estate, which includes providing subject matter expertise for development of engineering solutions, maintenance of assets and systems, and technical project briefs while adhering to operational risk management process.
  • Ensure that the Museum meets its maintenance and statutory compliance requirements by identifying critical building infrastructure assets and systems, developing maintenance strategies with the Hard FM Contractor.
  • Adhering to Health and Safety regulations and ensuring compliance with legislation
  • Ensure high standards are met by the Hard FM Contractor by monitoring KPIs, carrying out periodic audits and inspections.
  • Manage budgets for Hard FM Maintenance, instruct works and monitor risk, via the NEC4 Term Service Contract.
  • Troubleshoot museum emergencies appropriately, as they arise and mitigate consequences
  • Other tasks as required.

  • About you:

    • Be able to successfully work in a quick-paced and operationally demanding environment, while managing multiple responsibilities. This can require decisions to be made quickly and effectively.
    • Be able to work independently and with a wide range of stakeholders, effectively.
    • Proactively progress initiatives and tackle complex problems.
    • Manage their time effectively and plan ahead.

    Qualifications:

    • A desirable candidate will have management experience in construction or engineering maintenance, building conservation or equivalent. Prior experience of delivering maintenance projects in the heritage/museum sector would be beneficial for this role. A good working knowledge of statutory maintenance requirements for water (L8) and asbestos is desirable.
    • It is required for candidates to have a degree (or equivalent) in relevant subject, senior management level within a the Facilities Management environment. Candidates should have or be working towards a Built Environment professional body/association. Candidates must be able to comfortably use Microsoft Office, project management software and have strong IT skills.
